Waiting on approval

We saw Dr. Benson on Wednesday. Mara's MRI and CT came back fine. She is a canidate for the cochlear implant. He would like to do the right ear first and then the left one 3 months later. We are currently waiting on insurance approval. I was told by his scheduler that it takes about 2 weeks for insurance.

Have Insurance Card, Will Travel

The month of May is turning into quite the medical visit month. Tim did take Mara on April 30 to the cochlear implant doctor. He came home with a series  of instructions and appointments. First all shots must be up to date. (She got 3 on Wednesday). She also has to have a pneumonia shot. (Must go to health office for that). Next we go back for another hearing test in the office (May 10).She has a CT and MRI scheduled for May 17. On May 23 we meet with the cochlear doctor again to see what the test results are and if she is a candidate for one. He wants to move fast, so if she is a candidate we could have surgery in June.

Test Results

Our test results from Mara's sedated test confirm what we knew. She has sensory neural deafness. She cannot hear anything. We follow up with a doctor on the 30th.

Wow, that was fast!

On the first day of my spring break (April 2) I went to the Social Security office to fill out paperwork for Mara's SSN. I was told in a few weeks you will get her card. Ok, no biggie. Imagine my surprise when on Saturday the 7th I had that precious card in my hand. Well played, government office, well played.

Appointments

Ever since the insurance card came we have been unstoppable with appointments for Mara. First up was our pediatrician, then audiologist/ENT. The audiologist and ENT both confirmed what we knew, Mara cannot hear. Our next stop is for a sedation test or ABR (Auditory Brainstem Response). After that we see Dr. Benson, a neurotologist, and he will discuss the options available for Mara.

Let me just say the Mara picks up signs so very quickly. It boggles my mind. She also had her evaulation with Help Me Grow, the ladies were very impressed with our girl.
